Famous tennis Star Robson meeting expectations.Enjoy Robson's todays Story ....
With top fancy Andy Murray dumped out of Australian Open 2009 by Spaniard Fernando Verdasco, perhaps one can forgive a swarm of British journalists for descending on the small interview room that contained Laura Robson.
After all, it’s not often they have a Wimbledon singles champion to dote over – even if the recently-turned 15-year-old was born in Melbourne.
Robson’s run to sweep the Wimbledon girls’ event last year inspired a wave of euphoria almost equal to that preceding Murray’s elevation to the top ranks of men’s tennis.
And in her first Grand Slam event since victory at the All England Club (players of a certain age have a limit to the number of tournaments they can compete in), Robson was looking in fine form in the girls’ singles in Melbourne on Tuesday – overcoming a 5-1 deficit in the second set to defeat Thailand’s Kanyapat Narattana 6-3 7-6(0) and move through to the third round.
“I went down 5-1 in the second set, so it was good to come back,” Robson told the packed room. “Then especially I played a very good tiebreaker. So it’s really nice to get through to the next round.
“I’m just going to try and do the best I can. If someone plays better than me on the day, then that’s too good.”
Satisfied with Robson’s progress through the draw, the scribes quickly moved on to more pressing matters.
Had she had a chance to mingle with players from the pro tour? Had she seen any of the big names around? How was she going to balance study and tennis? What was her favourite subject?
Whatever the missile thrown, Robson seemed equal to the challenge.
Has she met the big names? “I saw a couple of them. I had a little chat with Serena Williams, so that was interesting … then I also talked to Andy Murray a lot.
How does she study? “Whenever I’ve got free time. It’s hard to [study] when I’m spending most of the time at the club waiting for doubles and everything, but in the evening – after dinner – I’m just trying to get some done.
How does she strike a balance? “When I’m here at the site I just try and focus on tennis, pretty much all the time. Because that’s what I’m here for. “
As for her favourite subject, the reply of physical education was greeted with raucous approval around the room.
It seems Laura Robson has a lot to live up to.
If Tuesday’s performance in front of the British press was anything to go by, she’s going to go a long way.
