Atletico Madrid striker Diego Forlan insists coach Javier Aguirre is not responsible for the club's poor form of late.
The capital club have now gone six games without a win following yesterday's 1-1 draw at Malaga and reports suggest Aguirre's job is very much on the line.
However, Forlan insists it would be a pointless exercise to replace him at the moment.
"In football if the results aren't there a head always has to roll and it's usually that of the coach," he said. "But it doesn't make sense.
"Us players are the ones who go out on the pitch.
"On the field it's us, he doesn't play, if he goes or someone else comes in, the situation will be the same."
Forlan is confident Atletico will be back to their best sooner rather than later.
"What everyone had to realise is that the team has improved," he added. "Not as much as we wanted, but we have done.
"We have the team to win many things, we have to keep calm and work because there is still a lot of the league left.
"It depends on us and that is fundamental.
"It's obvious we're not playing as well as in December, but in the last few matches we have improved our display.
"Last year we also had ups and downs but in the end we achieved our aims. All teams have their good moments and their bad.
"It's difficult unless you're Barcelona, who are great all year round, to keep the same level, but everyone goes through bad patches."
